Single Crochet Two Together (SC2TOG) Video Tutorial

Posted by admin on

Hello my fellow crochet beginners, so you’re wondering how you can decrease your stitches or what’s this two-together thing you hear in every other tutorial. Don’t worry I got you covered.

The SC2TOG stitch is a crochet technique that allows you to work two stitches together as if they were one. This is a great way to decrease the number of stitches in your work or to create shapes and patterns.

To work the SC2TOG stitch, insert your hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull through (two loops on hook), insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.

If you’re interested I have the same sort f video tutorial on how to do a hdc2tog.

How do you make a sc2tog stitch?

To make a single crochet Two-together all you need to do is opt for regular single crochet. Insert the hook in the chain and pull up a loop.

Now with that two loops in your hook insert the hook in the next stitch and pull up another loop.

Now that you have three loops in your hook, simply yarn over and pull through all of the three loops, and voila you just made a single crochet two together.

Now if you’re wondering what is the purpose of this stitch then let me clear it for you. Just look at the stitch you’ve just made, you’ll see that you have the base of two stitches and at the top, you have only one chain, just like I have in the picture below.

We make single crochet two-together whenever we want to have a decrease in the stitch count of the next round. For example, if you had 10 single crochet in the current round and you made one sc2tog, in the next round you’ll have 9 single crochet.

What does sc2tog mean?

In crochet, sc2tog means to single crochet two stitches together. This decrease stitch is worked by inserting your hook into the next stitch, then the following stitch, and drawing up a loop. You will then yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook. This will decrease your stitch count by one.

Is sc2tog the same as decrease?

The short answer is no, sc2tog is not the same as decrease. In crochet, sc2tog (single crochet 2 together) is a method of decreasing stitches, while decrease can refer to any method of reducing the number of stitches in a row or round. So, while both terms ultimately accomplish the same thing, they are not interchangeable. Let’s take a closer look at each term to see what sets them apart.

When crocheting flat pieces (work done back and forth in rows), the most common way to decrease stitches is by working 2 stitches together. This can be done in a few different ways, but the most common method is called sc2tog. To work an sc2tog, you insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert your hook into the following stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop again (3 loops on hook), then yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. This will decrease 1 stitch.

Decrease can also refer to any method of reducing stitches in a row or round. This could include skipped stitches, working 2 or more stitches together, or anything else that results in fewer stitches at the end of the row or round than there were at the beginning. So, while sc2tog is one way to decrease stitches, it is not the only way.

In summary, sc2tog is a specific method of decreasing stitches in crochet, while decrease is a general term that can refer to any number of methods for reducing stitches.

sc2tog summary

When working with crochet, the sc2tog stitch is a very useful way to decrease the number of stitches in a row. This stitch can be worked in a variety of ways, but the most common way to work it is by inserting the hook into the next stitch, then into the following stitch, yarn over, and pull through all three loops on the hook. This will decrease the number of stitches by one.

This stitch is often used when crocheting in the round, as it allows for decreases to be made without creating any visible holes. It can also be used to create shapes in a Crochet project, such as when making a garment or amigurumi toy.

There are a few things to keep in mind when working the sc2tog stitch. First, it is important to make sure that the two stitches being worked together are both facing the same direction. If they are not, the decrease will not work correctly and may cause the project to become misshapen.

Second, it is important to work this stitch fairly loosely. If it is worked too tightly, it can be difficult to insert the hook into the next stitch.

Finally, it is important to note that this stitch will create a slightly different appearance on the right side and the wrong side of the fabric. On the right side, the stitch will appear as a V-shape, while on the wrong side it will appear like an upside-down V-shape. This is something to keep in mind when working on projects that are meant to be reversible.

Overall, the sc2tog stitch is a very versatile and useful decrease stitch that every crocheter should know how to work. It can be used in a variety of ways to create different effects in a project, and it is relatively easy to execute once you get the hang of it. So next time you’re working on a crochet project, don’t forget to give the sc2tog stitch a try!
