Moncler vs. Canada Goose: Everything You Need To Know

Posted by admin on

When it comes to picking the right outerwear, there are a ton of considerations you should keep in mind, because let’s face it: all outerwear is not the same, especially if you live in a climate that reaches subzero temperatures in the winter. For instance, you may be able to get away with wearing a denim jacket in December in California, but if you reside in a place that actually has seasons, you’re gonna need something a little more heavy-duty, and that’s where two popular outerwear brands Moncler and Canada Goose come in.

And while both Moncler and Canada Goose may seem like similar outerwear brands, there are actually a plethora of differences between the two, which we’ll get into below. It’s never too early to shop for outerwear and prepare for the colder months, so we’ve laid out everything you need to know about Moncler and Canada Goose to help you choose the right winter coat for all your cold weather needs.

What Is Moncler?

Moncler

Moncler is a luxury brand that is known for its outerwear, skiwear, and more. Moncler was founded in 1952, and originally made tents and sleeping bags before transitioning over to quilted jackets, which is what they’re best known for today. While Moncler’s headquarters are located in Milan, Italy, the brand is widely available at retail stores across the globe, and it continues to be one of the most popular and premier choices for outerwear today.

Moncler jackets are typically more stylized than other down jackets, which makes the brand great for people who are looking for winter coats and jackets that also look fashionable and stylish. Moncler coats are often slimmer and sleeker than their winter jacket counterparts, so if you’re someone who hates the bulkiness of traditional outerwear, Moncler should be one of your top picks when it comes to choosing the right brand to invest in.

Moncler doesn’t just sell down jackets though; they also have a variety of windbreakers, vests, and other outerwear pieces that you can wear all year round, depending on the weather.

What Is Canada Goose?

Canada-Goose

Canada Goose is another popular outerwear brand that has been trusted by consumers since 1957. The brand carries an array of winter coats and jackets, including their iconic puffer jacket, which is described as “ultra-lightweight and versatile” and is “designed to move with you.”

Canada Goose jackets tend to lean toward the more traditional style of winter coats, especially their puffer coats. However, Canada Goose also carries bomber jackets, lightweight down jackets, vests, raincoats, and more, so no matter what kind of jacket or coat you’re looking for, Canada Goose will most definitely carry something that’ll fit your needs and personal style.

What Are The Main Differences Between Moncler and Canada Goose?

Differences Between Moncler and Canada Goose

There are actually quite a few differences between Moncler and Canada Goose, and while one brand isn’t particularly better than the other, whether you go with a Moncler jacket or a Canada Goose jacket all depends on what you’re looking for when it comes to outerwear.

As far as price goes, Moncler is going to be the more expensive option, but that’s not to say that Canada Goose is cheap either. Both brands will cost you a pretty penny, but when it comes to keeping you warm in below-freezing temperatures, you’re going to want to invest in a coat that can do just that.

Moncler’s down jackets are typically made of 90% down and 10% goose feather, which according to the brand, means “wind cannot go through the coat, and the coat is much lighter than other companies but is a lot warmer too.” Canada Goose parkas, on the other hand, are typically made with duck down, which also serves as a powerful insulator to keep you warm in even the coldest climates.

“We use down because it’s recognized as one of the world’s best natural insulators. Each ounce of down has approximately two million fluffy filaments that interlock and overlap to create insulating pockets of air, which is what keeps you warm,” the company’s website reads. Many of the brand’s parkas also feature a (removable) fur lining on the hood to ensure extra warmth and protection from the cold.

As far as durability is concerned, both Moncler and Canada Goose jackets will undoubtedly last for years, thanks to the construction of the brands’ outerwear; however, the main difference between the two comes down to the weight of the fabric.

Moncler jackets are made from Japanese nylon and are extra-light in comparison to Canada Goose parkas, whose fabric is a little denser. However, Canada Goose jackets come with a lifetime warranty, so if you’re on the hunt for something that’s guaranteed to last for, well, the rest of your life, Canada Goose may be a better choice for you.

While Moncler jackets definitely do their job when it comes to keeping you toasty warm, the brand’s designs have a more fashionable and stylish edge to them, so if you opt for one of Moncler’s signature puffer jackets in a goes-with-everything color like black, white, or grey, you’re better off wearing it around the city or for everyday wear in the colder months.

Moncler’s puffer jackets pair well with anything from casual to business attire and will keep you both cozy and stylish, and because the jacket is ultra-lightweight, you won’t feel like you’re suffocating – plus, you can carry it around without lugging around a bulky garment if it gets a little warm.

Canada Goose parkas tend to be a little bulkier than Moncler jackets; however, if you plan on being out in nature or spending a considerable amount of time in an uber-cold climate, Canada Goose jackets are perfect for wearing with other cold weather gear, like snow pants.

That’s not to say you can’t style a Canada Goose jacket with your normal, everyday look around town – although, if you’re heading to a formal event, we’d recommend going with either a Moncler coat (as it’s more fashion-forward) or a heavy-duty peacoat or trench coat.
