Luxury Puffer Jacket Is Filled With Helium, And It Actually Flie

There’s something about the childlike balloon that continues to fascinate grownups. For one, in 2013, Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog sold for a then-record price of US$58.4 million.

These party objects usually serve an aesthetic purpose more than anything else, but designer Andrew Kostman is changing that with a jacket so lightweight, it literally floats. Like balloons, the air in this puffer jacket is helium, making the ‘Helium-10000’ the “first flying jacket ever.”

The inflatable garment—designed in Italy and made in Japan—is packed with a “top secret” ultra-light material and is able to handle the pressure of helium. It also comes with a cylinder that allows helium refills.

The outerwear is certainly a piece that satisfies the “thinking out of the box” metaphor. In fact, it flies over that box. Kostman said he was inspired by Steve Job’s “Think Different” philosophy, as well as a child holding in balloon, in coming up with the novel piece, which is available in colorways Rainbow N, Rose, Ice, Vanta, Gold, and Silver.

As its name indicates, the Helium-10000 supposedly warrants a price of $10,000, Luxurylaunches reports. This is helped by the fact that only 100 pieces will be available.

You’d be surprised to know that there’s an even rarer version of this jacket. Its non-fungible token (NFT) counterpart, where only one of each color will be available, will bear a starting price of US$50,000 per piece in Ethereum.
