Jordyn Woods received backlash after wearing an abaya while vacationing in Abu Dhabi.
Woods posted a photo of herself in the traditional garment worn by Muslim women, together with her mother and sister. They visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque during their trip to the UAE.
Her photo sparked controversy online, and many pointed out that Muslim women would get bashed for donning their traditional wear while celebrities got applauded for the getups.
“Oh, so if they wear it they’re praised, but when Muslim girls wear it they are bashed and called terrorists?” one Instagram user wrote in the comments section.
Others thought Woods was mocking the religion. She, however, quickly defended herself, writing, “I’m sorry if I offended you, but in order to enter the mosque you have to wear an abaya. In no world would I try to mock another person.”
In another clip where she sashayed to a Beyoncé song in the black robe and head wrap, she wrote in the caption, “For those of you that don’t know in order to enter the mosque you must wear an Abaya. It was such an amazing experience getting to see the beauty of another culture.”
