The UK-based educational technology firm, Twin is celebrating its recent at the Smart Toy Artificial Intelligence Awards organised by the World Economic Forum this month, beating competition from the likes of LEGO to take home first place in the Empowering Toy category.

It marks the latest award win for the firm that has previously secured accolades in awards programmes such as Bett Awards and Play for Change hosted for the first time last year.

Twin saw off competition from 47 shortlisted brands, including LEGO, as each smart toy entrant was marked for its ethical and responsible design and means of providing innovative play experiences for children. Twin won the award in the Empowering Toy category at a ceremony held this month that featured names such as singer Will.i.am and UNICEF’s executive director, Henrietta Fore among its judges.

The Twin Autonomous Vehicle Kit rose above its competitors in the competition for its ‘responsible and conscientious use of artificial intelligence’ as well as its ability to teach children the technology behind driverless vehicles, and enabling kids to learn and experience the technologies of the future.

Twin Science and Robotics co-founder and CEO, Asude Altintas, said: “We are working to raise double-winged children who are both conscientious and equipped. We see this award as a reflection of our vision, and we thank the jury of the Smart Toy Awards for awarding this vision.”

Twin, whose seeds were sown 10 years ago, was officially founded in 2017 as an educational technology initiative. Twin’s founding team met while volunteering at the Young Guru Academy (YGA) and held science workshops with over 20,000 children who do not have access to quality education all over Turkey.

With the robotics, coding and artificial intelligence-based educational toys it produces, Twin has reached more than 400,000 children in 15 different countries including but not limited to the United Kingdom, the USA, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany.

In February, it introduced its digital product, Twin mobile application, and in a short time reached 60,000 children organically.

With the World Science Movement project initiated by YGA and the Ministry of National Education in Turkey, Twin Kits have been sent to 1000 village schools so far. As the international STEM partner of companies such as Rolls-Royce, Ford, and Boeing, Twin is now helping spread the World Science Movement project the whole world.

“The vision of Twin, who develops its contents together with long-established educational institutions such as Imperial College London and UCL, is to raise responsible generations that will produce solutions to the world’s problems with their knowledge, skills, and conscience,” said the team.
